Olympics-Cycling-Trott dominant as she hammers omnium field
“At my first Olympics in Beijing I knew we had something special to build on”, said Kenny.

Trott, who has previously lived in Fallowfield, is the first British female athlete to win four gold medals, adding to the two she won at the London Olympics in 2012.
Both scored 34 points in the points race, the final of the competition, with that being enough to secure a second consecutive Olympic gold medal in the event for Trott.
The 24-year-old cyclist revealed that her newfound fame was rather unnerving during an interview with Good Morning Britain’s Nick Dixon in the Olympic Village today. “I don’t want to cry”, she told ther BBC, as she broke down in tears.
The most decorated woman in British Olympic history, who also won the team pursuit earlier in the Games, was never really troubled as she warded off any danger and picked up plenty of points in sprints.
Kenny joins fellow track cycling great Chris Hoy on six gold medals after ensuring Matthijs Buchli of the Netherlands and Malaysian Azizulhasni Awang won silver and bronze respectively.
She did so with a masterclass of track cycling, particularly in the omnium where she won the individual pursuit and the elimination race on Monday and then seized complete control by going fastest in the flying lap on Tuesday.
Trott now has four Olympic gold medals to her name at the age of 24 after racking up 230 points, finishing 24 better off than American silver medallist Sarah Hammer, with Jolien D’Hoore taking bronze for Belgium. It was about coming here and winning as many golds as we could.
Hammer also won silver in team pursuit behind Trott’s Team GB.
While Trott was totally dominant in the omnium, Kenny’s keirin victory was controversial.
She said: ‘Things like that come with winning gold medals but I just feel like that eight-year-old that started cycling because she absolutely loved it. “I was there in Bejing and knew it was special and as the years have gone by I appreciated how fantastic he was then and to do same it is unbelievable”.

“Ultimately it was the right decision, it was ridiculously tight and it’s a bit vague, that kind of rule”, said Kenny.
