Olympics gymnastics results: August 14
Biles is now the first woman to win three consecutive world all-around titles and has just won her second gold medal in Rio.

It keeps three-time world all-around champion Biles’ bid for a record five women’s gymnastics golds on track with vault, beam and floor finals to come in Rio. Her two-vault average of 15.966 was more than.7 better than silver medalist Maria Paseka of Russian Federation and bronze medalist Giulia Steingruber of Switzerland. For instance, while Switzerland’s Giulia Steingruber started strong with a 15.333, she scored a 14.900 on her second attempt, dropping her final score to 15.216.
It was the latest achievement in a long line of them.
FIRST TIME EVER: Team USA’s Simone Manuel won the 100-meter freestyle in 52.70 to become the first African-American woman to earn a medal in an individual event in swimming in the Summer Olympics.
Biles, a 19-year-old Spring, Texas, native, had earlier won the women’s all-around gold and shared in the USA team gold.
Yet there she was 10 months later, standing on the podium with her fifth Olympic medal around her neck, the 22-year-old called “grandma” by her teammates having the last laugh and getting a measure of revenge after losing bronze in the 2012 all-around final to Mustafina on a tiebreaker. She earned a insane high 16.033 on her second vault, making her average a massive 15.966. She also dominated the rest of the field in the vault and the balance beam to capture her second gold of the Olympics. A portion of her floor exercise routine – the one that includes her signature tumbling pass – is set to Latin music that would fit right in on the street outside the Rio Olympic Arena. She also becomes the first American woman to win gold on the vault.
Biles vaulted last in the lineup and knew exactly what she needed to score to take the top spot on the podium. While they come from all walks of life, they each have one common goal in mind: to win gold in the vault final! I think it means a lot, especially what’s going on in the world today with some of the issues with police brutality.
Each gymnast performed two vaults, and her final score is the average of both. Oksana Chusovitina’s seventh trip to the Olympics ended with a seventh-place finish for the 41-year-old from Uzbekistan.

Biles still has the opportunity to leave Rio with five gold medals.
