Olympics-Hosszu drops out of 200m butterfly

Hungary’s Katinka Hosszu pulled out of the 200 metres Olympic butterfly heats to save her energies for the 200m individual medley that could bring her a third gold of the Games on Tuesday. He spoke less than 24 hours after being criticized for calling the coach and husband of Hungarian swimmer Katinka Hosszu “the guy responsible” for a career turnaround that led to her gold medal swim on Saturday.

Australian world champion Emily Seebohm, swimming in an outside lane, set the early pace but Hosszu powered her way through the field in the last half of the race to touch the wall in 58.45 seconds.

The couple have closed ranks, however, when it comes to criticism of Tusup’s motivational methods in training, with some swimming insiders suggesting to the New York Times that they constituted abuse.

“I was so nervous, so afraid, what if I don’t win a medal?” she said. “I’m so excited to get the gold I can’t even believe it. The night ended with Tusup kissing Hosszu on the forehead and pulling her close in a long embrace on the deck.” .

“It’s not about the race times, but the press conferences and doping control goes late”.

Spain’s Mireia Belmonte Garcia, a 400 IM bronze medallist on Saturday, was fastest with Natalie Adams of the United States second.

“I don’t think I had my best race, but this is what we’ve been working for the last four years”, she said.

“I was confident”, she said. I have trained the whole four years without taking off more than a day.

Fencing has featured in the Olympic Games ever since the first of the modern era in 1896, and this year 246 athletes from 47 countries take part across 10 events.

“That’s why I’m so upset that I didn’t manage it, I knew that lots of people were counting on me”.
