But while Tusup was overjoyed by his Hosszu’s performance in the final, he wasn’t so stoked with her swim in the heat, when she narrowly missed breaking the world record.

But as the 2016 Summer Olympics have commenced in Rio, USC may have very well found its next Olympic standout in 27-year-old Katinka Hosszu.

DOPING: Good for NBC swimming reporter Michele Tafoya to ask — and American swimmer Lilly King to step forward with an honest answer — on her feelings about competing against Russian swimmer Yulia Efimova, who had been banned for doping but the suspension put on hold while further studies are being conducted on the drug involved.

Some of the really big names in women’s swimming begin their battles in the 200 meters freestyle event. The Hungarian shattered the 400m medley world record Saturday, knocking off more than two seconds and leaving the rest of the field a long way behind.

The 2008 Beijing games saw Hosszu finish 12th in the 400m IM and 17th in the 200m IM.

“In 2012, after graduating from college and basically turning pro, I felt like London was my time to do it”.

Even NBC’s official Olympics Twitter account encouraged women to “find someone who loves you the way Katinka Hosszu’s husband loves her”.

Hosszu, the “Iron Lady” who withdrew from the 200m butterfly earlier on Tuesday to prepare for the evening race, is entered in one more individual event, the 200 backstroke.

She won five NCAA Titles and was a 20-time All-American as a member of the Women’s Swimming team at USC.

Hosszu had, remarkably, never won an Olympic medal in three previous Games but has now won three golds in the course of four days in Rio.

Ryan Murphy broke an Olympic record to win the men’s 100m backstroke.

She also broke the world record in the 400 medley in Rio and was a surprise victor of the 100m backstroke, joining an elite group of female swimmers to have won three individual gold medals at a single Olympics. Swimmer John Naber had four at the 1976 Olympics.
