Olympics: Model Gisele Bundchen steals show at opening ceremony
Gisele Bundchen strutted her stuff publicly for the final time on Friday night, with her appearance in the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games at the Maracana Stadium bringing down the curtain on a career as the world’s greatest catwalk model. Heavily armed security stopped a small group of protesters from getting close to the stadium ahead of the ceremony.

Tom Brady’s wife Gisele Bundchen is reportedly getting mugged at the opening of the Rio Olympics this weekend. Where does Folha get this dumb idea from? “There will be no robbery”, a spokesman for organizers told AFP. Because the scene was controversial, it was pulled from the show.
However, director Fernando Mierelles, one of the show’s masterminds took to social media to deny the papers’ claims.
Reports say that the assailant is intercepted by the police before the Brazilian supermodel forgives her mugger.
She sashayed from one end of the stadium to the other, a walk of around 500 feet, dressed in a shimmering dress that flowed behind her.
The newspaper quoted an unnamed cast member in the ceremony as saying that the scene spoils the whole show.
“We want to have the biggest party there has ever been in this country”, co-artistic director Daniela Thomas says.
Bundchen, one of the world’s highest paid models, has sporting connections.
Rather than presenting Brazil’s history in chronological order, the production team has opted to present it in a “modern and dynamic way”, which emphasis on veering away from “clichés and stereotypes”.
Workers continue to put the finishing touches to the Olympic Tennis Centre at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016.
The ceremony is expected to be watched by up to 900 million viewers about 7am Saturday (Australian time).
Along with thousands of athletes parading behind their national flags, as well as a contingent of refugees, there’ll be hundreds of performers from a dozen local samba schools singing and dancing in wild costumes.

After a rehearsal that was supposed to be kept a secret, the internet lit up with leaks about the ceremony, including the weird scenario of the long-legged beauty being robbed in a disarmingly honest reflection of life in colourful Rio de Janeiro. They are also accused of frequently tampering with evidence to cover up killings by officers.
