“It’s just natural for me to pick Mikel as our captain”, Siasia announced.
The Minister again restated that the Ministry was not carried along for the camping programme for the Games and then threatened to deal with those who have spoken with the media over the situation in camp. For officials who made a decision to violate the code of their profession and take to media rampage (sic) to secure cheap blackmail, their conduct will definitely be measured with existing rules. We shall stop at nothing to sanction any conduct that is not within the code of Rio operations.
The players unanimously accepted Mikel Obi as their captain and expressed delight at the role he has been playing since he joined the team.
Meanwhile, team Nigeria have arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 2016 Games.
The sports minister, who was expected to visit the team at their base in Atlanta, opted to speak with the captain of Team Nigeria John Mikel Obi on the phone.
Meanwhile, former Nigeria worldwide Yisa Shofoluwe believes the Nigeria U-23 team would be affected by their late arrival in Rio ahead of their first group match against Japan on Thursday.
