(Olympics): Phelps claims 21st gold as US win 4x200m relay
He is the all-time leader in Olympic medals (25) and golds (21).

As he looked up at a boisterous crowd, triumphant for the 20th time in his unmatched Olympic career, Michael Phelps raised his hands and flicked them in his direction as if to say: “Bring on the world”.
The Bethesda teen also is swimming in the 800 freestyle relay Wednesday, giving her a chance to join Amy Van Dyken and Missy Franklin as the only American women to win four gold medals in one Games. So far, this swan song is going far better.
Michael Phelps (USA) of USA poses with his gold medal at 2016 Rio Olympics victory ceremony of Men’s 200m Butterfly at Olympic Aquatics Stadium, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on August 9,2016.
The United States has won 12 gold medals in this relay over the past 14 Olympics (that excludes Moscow in 1980). His second event to win gold in was the 200 meter butterfly. The face of Phelps, nearly growling, is showing up all over the place days after the now infamous pre-race incident.
He swore he was retiring after the 2012 London Games-but he roared back in Rio on Sunday night and crushed the competition in the men’s 4x100m relay.
The race had been billed as a grudge match between Phelps and his London Olympic conqueror Le Clos, but instead it was Sakai who posed the biggest threat with a final-50-meter time that was nearly a full second faster than Phelps’.
And of course, no new meme can exist without somehow being interspersed with Crying Jordan.
This was another performance for the ages, but Phelps has done it so many times that nothing else would have been fitting. Oh my gosh! I thought I was standing still.
On Tuesday night, I saw Michael Phelps in the pool.
Here’s the heart-stopping footage of Phelps in action during the 200-meter butterfly.
Michael Phelps added another two titles to his unrivalled Olympic record on Tuesday as the US leapt to the top of the gold medal table in Rio.
The American phenom, who won the 400m title with a stunning world record on day two, clocked 1:53.73 to win by 0.35 seconds from Sjostrom with Australia’s Emma Mckeon taking bronze in 1:54.92.
Still, Phelps was not done, putting the gloss on a fourth straight American victory in the 4x200m free, cruising home nearly two and a half seconds ahead of Britain’s James Guy in the swimming equivalent of baseball’s home-run trot around the bases. His first event was the Men’s 100m freestyle relay where he won the first gold medal of the Summer Games.
Michael Phelps just took home some more Olympic gold after winning the 200-meter butterfly. “It’s the closest I’ve ever come to throwing up at the end of a race”.

“That was probably one of my most challenging doubles”, the 31-year-old Phelps said.
