Gatlin, the 2004 champion who came into the race with the season’s fastest time of 9.80, took second in 9.89.
A 100m race lasts for less than 10 seconds and most of the epic moments go unnoticed.
Dodgy crowds have followed around the first week of the 2016 Olympics, with media reporting large sections of empty seats at popular events such as beach volleyball.
“I’m excited about what about to happen for the rest of the Olympics, I really want the 200m world record”, he said. Usain Bolt drew the largest cheers as he carried a large stuffed Vinicius around the track.
Rio de Janeiro, Aug 15 (IANS) Sprint king Usain Bolt has said he was a step closer to immortality after becoming the first man to win three consecutive Olympic 100-metre gold medals. He ran a 9.81 en route to accomplishing the feat. But his smoothness and ease in running and winning just never ceases to amaze, as he beat the competition (Justin Gatlin) in this case by 0.08 seconds, and had his unique combination of confidence and charming arrogance to smile at the camera while crossing the finish line, while everyone else is focused on making it to the 100 meters.
Markham’s own Andre De Grasse has taken Bronze in Rio.
“I was surprised”, Bolt said.
Bolt trailed for a majority of the race, passing Gatlin in the final 25 meters.

Bolt, who is desperate to better his 2009 world best of 19.19sec, said a new record could be on the cards as he geared up Tuesday’s opening round of the 200. He will also contest the 4x100m relay, which Jamaica has won the past two Games.
