Argentina are out of tournament after being held to a 1-1 draw by Honduras.
Champions in their last two Olympic tournaments in 2004 and 2008, Argentina missed a penalty that would have taken them through but an injury time equaliser against Honduras, who scored one penalty and missed another, was not enough.
They follow group winners Portugal, who sealed top spot with a 1-1 draw with Algeria. But it was too late. Honduras captain Bryan Acosta saw his penalty saved by Argentina goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli, before Argentina playmaker Angel Correa hitting the post in the 55th minute.
Germany routed Fiji 10-0 on Wednesday to progress to the knockout stage as Group C runner-up.
Fiji’s only goal scored in the tournament was from Labasa’s wonder boy Roy Krishna against Mexico.
Germany is set to take on Fiji in men’s soccer group play at the Rio Olympics on Wednesday, August 10 at 12 p.m. PT at the Mineirão Stadium in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
Mexico continued to dominate the ball throughout the match, but half-chances for Marco Bueno and Erick Torres were not dispatched with time running out.
