Olympics-Swimming-Peaty breaks own record for 100m breaststroke gold
The 21-year-old from Uttoxeter won the 100 metres breaststroke to emulate Adrian Moorhouse, who won the same event in Seoul in 1988.

Adam Peaty smashed his own world record for the second time in two days on Sunday to win 100 metres breaststroke gold and become the first British male swimmer in 28 years to win an Olympic title.
The race was won by the brilliant Hungarian Katinka Hosszu, who produced an incredible display to clock 4:26.36 and smash the world record by over two seconds.
“But for now I’m going to enjoy it and get the relay done and deliver another good performance for Team GB”.
“It’s not often you get this opportunity, so I thought I’d put all my eggs in one basket and go for it”. The last Olympics in London did not bring gold medals to the Great Britain, but stimulated the development of swimming in the kingdom and raised a new generation of young and talented swimmers.
Just as we predicted, last night was Adam Peaty’s night as he stormed ahead of his competition and stole the Gold Medal in the 100m Breaststroke final.
“He [Jaykae] messaged me after I shouted him out on Radio 1”.
“It’s a great swim from him, obviously, a world record – anytime you do that is really special”, said the South African. “They set me up really well”.
“I am super stoked to add a silver to my gold”, he said.
“It’s so surreal to get Team GB’s first gold, but this product is seven years of work”. “She’s never doubted me, and that means so much to me”.
And he went quicker still in surging to a supreme victory.
The City of Derby swimmer was well over a second faster than Japan’s Yasuhiro Koseki, touching in 57.55 to duck under his previous record by just under half a second. So I should give myself the best opportunity and the best chance.
Cheering him on during the race were his mother and father, Caroline and Mark Peaty, and girlfriend Anna Zair.
“I stayed up to watch the races and I just thought it was awesome”, said City of Sunderland swimming club member Jonathan.
“I feel like I’m in the meet now”, he said after setting the fifth equal fastest time in the opening 200m heats with Townley Haas of the United States.

She told the BBC: “Since I have been going to watch Adam it’s given me a new life, a different life, that I never dreamt that I would have and I have loved every minute of it”.
