RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) – The International Boxing Association has removed an undisclosed number of referees and judges from the Olympics after determining they had not met the organization’s standards of competence.
AIBA picks its Olympic referees and judges from a pool of 36 men and women.
Olympic boxing’s governing body AIBA has announced that it has expelled a “handful” of referees and judges involved in controversial decisions during the Rio Games.
“AIBA will not shy away from its responsibilities and is fully committed…”
AIBA says that according to its new rules boxers can not appeal the decisions and that all results will stand. Conlan took to Twitter to express his disapproval of the action of sending the judges home that is of little outcome to the boxers themselves.
The biggest blowup at these Rio Olympic Games has led to an immediate change.
He also hopes that his angry reaction after the fight “opens the eyes of the world” to amateur boxing’s scoring system for athletes in the future.
Five officials judge each bout and a computer randomly selects three whose scores are counted.
On Monday, Evgeny Tishchenko of Russian Federation won the heavyweight gold medal by unanimous decision as all judges scored the fight with Kazakhstan’s Vassiliy Levit 29-28.
The Algerian Kheira Sidi Yakoub, who officiated on the controversial Evgeny Tishchenko heavyweight bout, and the Irishman Michael Gallagher are among those who have not appeared since the decision was taken.
“During the fight she was constantly on me saying “keep your head up Conlan and one more I am going to warn you”. A Sri Lankan judge and a Brazilian judge from that fight were on AIBA’s list of working officials Wednesday as well.
The number of judges – and the names – have not been released by AIBA.
Nikitin is declared victor over Conlan in 2016 Olympic boxing match. In spite of their understanding, numerous boxing coaches were glad AIBA had booted the boxing judges responsible for the most egregious scoring results.

Conlan’s ringside tirade, in which he called the AIBA “the most corrupt organisation in the world” and said he was “done” with amateur boxing, drew attention to a problem that has previously been raised by critics.
