Olympus launching AIR A01 mirrorless camera in United States and Canada this month
Your smartphone serves as the body of the camera, and you bolt the lens assembly onto it. It’s a Micro Four-Thirds camera, so you’ve got an enormous variety of lenses to use, including stabilized ones if that’s more your style. Function such as the sensor, battery, storage to name a few has been stuffed into this new device which has the same size of the lens of an average DSLR camera.

The Olympus AIR A01 camera will have a 16-megapixel Live MOS Micro Four Thirds (MFT) sensor which will be capable of delivering great image quality.
In terms of connectivity, the lens is equipped with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth. Users can chose to shoot RAW if they like, and the shutter speed can be moved up to a maximum of 1/16.000. Simplicity is key for both the device and app, Olympus says.
Like several of Olympus mirrorless camera offerings, the Air supports interchangeable lenses, although it depends on users’ smartphones to regulate image viewing, camera settings and different functions. The built-in battery is said to be good for 320 shots on a full charge. And it’s coming to America under the AIR A01 name, a camera not unlike the Sony QX series that can be paired with your phone or tablet. It also features a tripod mount which could be handy for remote shooting. The company is also planning to keep the Air open to developers who want to build custom apps and other accessories for the Air with a software development kit (SDK).
The Olympus Air A01 will be available in the U.S. from this month in black or white for US$300 body-only, or $500 bundled with a 14-42-mm EZ lens.
