The delegation led by former chief minister Omar Abdullah of the National Conference will apprise Modi of the ground situation in the state and take up the use of pellet guns by security forces which has blinded several protesters and pitch for an end to “mass harassment, raids and arrests” as these have worsened an already volatile situation.

Expressing satisfaction at the steady growth of PDP, as a platform for change in Jammu & Kashmir, she said “the credit goes to the disciplined, dedicated and ideologically motivated cadres” of the party and people living in all regions of the state.

“We are of the firm opinion that the Central Government should waste no further time in initiating a credible and meaningful political dialogue with all stakeholders to address the unrest in the state”, the memorandum said.

The Solicitor General (SG) Ranjit Kumar said that he would “personally talk” to the home secretary to facilitate Bhim Singh’s meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“The Prime Minister has acknowledged that development alone can’t resolve the problem in the state”, Abdullah told the media after the meeeting.

Referring to the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in a gunfight, the Chief Minister said, “there was nothing new in this”.

Union finance minister Arun Jaitley said on Sunday that the government will not yield to stone-pelting mobs in Kashmir, instead it will deal firmly with them.

“We talked about the same thing that we have been talking with other leaders ever since we arrived in Delhi that the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, especially in light of the present crisis, needs to be understood correctly after which a solution is required. So, we urged Yechury and his colleagues that the process should not be discontinued when the situation improves”, Omar said.

He also tweeted saying he is “grateful to @narendramodi ji for taking out the time to receive the delegation from J&K and giving us a patient hearing beyond allotted time”. He also said that militancy and stone-pelting need to be dealt with firmly. Most Kashmiris want peace. “We will get ample time to play political games later”. The delegation – which includes CPM lawmaker Yusuf Tarigami and Congress’ Ghulam Ahmed Mir – met Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi yesterday to convey “the seriousness of the situation”.
