On day one of DNC, Bernie Sanders fans were just a distraction

But some Sanders supporters say they’ll never vote for Clinton, even if it means Trump is elected president.

News 12 spoke one on one with Clinton’s close friend, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe, who spoke after the official state-by-state roll call clinched the nomination. Some videos used Donald Trump’s words against him; others showed Hillary Clinton in action.

Senator BERNIE SANDERS gestures as he takes the stage for the keynote address during the opening day of the Democratic National Convention at the Wells Fargo Center.

The last thing Trump wants to see is a unified Democratic Party, with the supporters of Sanders and Clinton making common cause against his destructive agenda.

And veteran singer-songwriter Paul Simon took to the stage to sing the Simon and Garfunkel classic from 1970 “Bridge Over Troubled Water” whose lyrics could apply to many a political party.

“I think it only shows that Hillary Clinton has made us all question her capability, her integrity, her honesty”, she told WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond. But it wasn’t long ago Sanders was attacking the former first lady for her flip-flop on hydraulic fracturing.

“I think the timing around our convention was not a coincidence”, Mook said on MSNBC Tuesday morning. Following the resignation of Debbie Wasserman Schultz as DNC chairwoman due to revelations from hacked e-mails that committee staffers displayed a favoritism to Clinton during the primary, Sanders called for “fresh leadership” in order to pull off a “transformation”.

In a separate protest, against police brutality and racial injustice, about 500 people marched down Broad Street to City Hall.

After she crossed the threshold to clinch her party’s nomination in June, Clinton’s victory speech drew inspiration from her late mother.

The senator’s brother Larry, who lives in England, cast the delegate votes for Democrats Abroad and remembered their parents, seeming to bring tears to Bernie Sanders’ eyes. Hillary Clinton whips passed out Bernie signs-that the Clinton campaign had printed-and everyone held them up on cue. Clinton promoted fracking for natural gas while America’s top diplomat, and the Clinton Foundation, her non-profit, has taken money from large oil companies and petro-states.

But former state lawmaker Bob Hagan of Youngstown, another Sanders delegate, said Sanders delegates from OH weren’t as loud as some other delegations, such as California. A few spontaneously sang “this land is our land”, and a banner read “we the people”. But most important was his final statement; “Hillary Clinton will make an outstanding president and I am proud to stand with her tonight”. I’m 9th generation American. But any hopes of a quick coronation were derailed by fervor on the political left for Sanders, whose significant wins in early northeastern contests and caucus states fueled backers’ hopes that he could erase Clinton’s substantial delegate lead.
