On eve of their convention, Democrats bedeviled anew by email

Kaine talked about how his views on gun control measures had been honed by the massacre on the Virginia Tech campus in 2007, while he was governor. Still many delegates, and Sanders himself, said they planned to fall in line, mindful of the Republican alternative.

A longtime Clinton supporter, Martin spoke favorably of vice president nominee Kaine as well, noting that he is a well-respected Democrat. “We’re going to be “compañeros de alma, ‘ in this great ‘lucha” ahead”, he said, or “soul mates in this great fight ahead”.

Kaine, a 58-year-old senator from the battleground state of Virginia, won many a cheer and laugh and frequent applause as he addressed a campaign rally one day after being tapped for the Democratic ticket.

At the splashy rally, Democrats sought to offer a contrast with Trump and Pence, whose first appearance together in a New York City hotel ballroom included a lengthy speech by the GOP businessman and much more limited remarks from Pence, the in governor. The two only briefly posed for photos at their campaign kickoff.

Clinton complained of a “Hillary standard” – suggesting that she faces more scrutiny than other top-level politicians. He spent a year in Honduras as a Catholic missionary before graduating from law school.

The Clinton aide said she ultimately concluded that Kaine met her top consideration – the ability to step in as president if necessary – and she had reached a comfort level with the low-key lawmaker that made her believe he could be a “true partner in governing”. Three months later, it ended with a phone call to a shipyard office, where Virginia Sen. She said Clinton can’t change her feelings now.

And while Kaine opposed gay adoption in 2005 – also in line with Catholic Church teaching – by 2012 he had reversed his position. She said then that her supporters hadn’t yet been able to “shatter that highest, hardest glass ceiling”.

McDonnell disclosed accepting $275,707 in gifts as attorney general and governor, according to the online files of the Virginia Public Access Project. Clinton was also drawn to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, the former Iowa governor who remained in the running until the end.

“Many people are uncomfortable with this whole FBI thing”, Schreiner said, referring to the bureau’s investigation into Clinton’s email practices. “Do you consider Tim Kaine a progressive, and are you happy with this pick?” “We will be there at 9 a.m. tomorrow”. However, Hilary Clinton’s and now Kaine’s opposition and influence could stop the vote from occurring.

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton fist bumps Sen. Job killer!” In a tweet earlier in the day, Trump wrote that Kaine was “owned by the banks. Last year, he was one of only a dozen Democratic senators to vote for fast-tracking an ominous trade pact, the corporate Trans-Pacific Partnership. “Hillary Rotten Clinton, right?” “That doesn’t need to be where he goes – but to say, “You know, you guys and everybody in power these days, you’ve got the next generation’s future in your hands, and you don’t want to have to face that question later in life: With the science what it was, and with you having the opportunity to do something about it, why did you choose not to?'”

Both he and Clinton drove home what is emerging as a key campaign message: that Trump is a deeply divisive figure with despotic tendencies – and that Clinton is his polar opposite.

Kaine is viewed skeptically by some liberals in the Democratic Party, who dislike his support of free trade and Wall Street.
