On stage and off, Clinton-Sanders contest turns testy
One day after the two squared off at a debate that emphasized issues relating to race and gender, Mrs. Clinton made clear that she intends to run in this state’s primary by effectively seeking Mr. Obama’s third term – and claiming Mr. Sanders would be a threat to the first black president’s accomplishments.

The former secretary of state made two trips to Colorado, the most recent in late November, and sent former President Bill Clinton to encourage supporters at a private event in January. Clinton does not support these views, saying they have a long way to go before even thinking about the notion of having a good relationship with Iran.
The frontrunner is leading with 65 percent support among the state’s likely Democratic primary voters, while U.S. Sen.
Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, both hoping to win over Nevada’s African-American electorate ahead of this week’s presidential caucus, attended an aptly named house of worship on Sunday: Victory Missionary Baptist Church. “Experience should teach you not to vote for an Iraq War where this country has not attacked us”, Ellison said about Clinton.
“We’re going to surprise them here in Nevada”, he said.
But Clinton was frequently on the offensive as well, seizing an opportunity to talk about leaders she admired and turning it against Sanders by bashing his past criticism of President Obama – a remark that Sanders called a “low blow”.
In the more crowded Republican field, SC is next.
HILLARY CLINTON: The best analysis that I have seen, based on Senator Sanders’ plans, is that it would probably increase the size of the federal government by about 40 percent. We will be taking a more comprehensive look at these speeches in the future. “This isn’t surprising in any way, but Bernie Sanders is more of a purist and Hillary Clinton is more of a…pragmatist, maybe?”
She challenged Sanders specifically on his implication that Clinton is part of a political establishment corrupted by campaign contributions, noting that Obama “was the recipient of the largest number of Wall Street donations” in history.
Coming off an electoral bruising in the New Hampshire primary, Clinton sought to cast Sanders’ tuition-free college as one of a series of empty promises that ignore the bitterly polarized and gridlocked nature of the country.
As the campaign transitions from mostly-white Iowa and New Hampshire to Latino-heavy Nevada and African-American-dominated SC, both candidates were focused from the outset on courting minority voters.
Sanders’ campaign manager Jeff Weaver first insisted that “the Democrats are running a more issue-oriented campaign than the Republicans”. While Coates has criticised Sanders for rejecting proposals to pay reparations for slavery, he backs the senator’s proposals to combat economic inequality.
Overall, Clinton has 394 delegates Sanders has 44.
Clinton once again tied herself to President Obama.
