On target for first US gold

Thrasher took first place with 208 points, Du Li from China took second with 207 points, and third place when to Yi Siling from China with 185.4 points.

Like every Olympic champion, Thrasher says, “This is beyond my wildest dreams”.

“When I was in eighth grade my grandfather took me hunting”, she said.

The American, a Springfield, Va., native, was one of eight competitors to emerge from the 50-woman qualification round.

Said Thrasher: “I had some distracting thoughts about the medals (midway through), but I just breathed through it and concentrated on shooting the best that I could”.

US won the silver in the men’s archery event, as well as three swimming events.

Men’s archery team won silver today.

According to KSDK 5, Thrasher told the media post-win, “Some of the (controversy surrounding) gun laws in America is just distracting from our sport, which is very different”.

The United States took three silvers in the pool.

Carli Lloyd scored the lone goal for the Americans.

Solo became the first goalkeeper, male or female, to reach the 200th-cap mark in global play.
