On Verge Of Nomination Clinch, Clinton Wins In Puerto Rico

“I think at least we’ve had the right debate in the Democratic primary”, Clinton said.

That’s according to an Associated Press count.

“And then you know what she’s also guilty of?”

Hillary Clinton won the race over Bernie Sanders. In one key metric, however, Bernie Sanders blows away not just Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton, but even presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump.

With Lopez’s endorsement, all seven of Puerto Rico’s superdelegates have pledged their support for Clinton.

For her part, Clinton has largely refrained from publicly criticizing Sanders after large victories in primary states like New York, Pennsylvania, and Maryland, instead turning her focus to her likely general-election opponent in Trump.

The California Democratic primary is on June 7.

There’s been little polling of the island, but Clinton’s history with Puerto Ricans in NY state, where she was a senator, could help. Few have signaled any plans to do so, however.

Between her and her husband, former U.S. president Bill Clinton, the couple have held around 30 campaign events in the past five days, hoping to eke out a win in California, which has 546 delegates up for grabs and was supposed to be an easy win for Mrs Clinton.

A loss to Sanders in California would not derail Clinton’s path to the nomination, but it could galvanise Sanders and his supporters to carry their insurgency all the way to the party’s nominating convention in July.

A Sanders victory will not clear the way to his nomination unless it triggers a defection by scores of superdelegates – party office-holders and officials – from Ms Clinton’s camp, an unlikely outcome.

Clinton’s campaign message in the golden state didn’t change much from city to city.

California voters will take to the polls Tuesday to vote in the last major presidential primary of the 2016 election season, with 548 delegates up for grabs.

Mo Elleithee, executive director of Georgetown University’s Institute of Politics and Public Service and a former Clinton campaign staffer, said her June 2008 concession to Obama in the closely fought Democratic primary that year should be a roadmap for Sanders. The final pre-vote Field poll performed at the end of May, meanwhile, found Clinton had 45 percent to Sanders’ 43 percent.

He cited Clinton’s push for intervention in Libya in 2011, and a no-fly zone in Syria as examples that “can suck us into never-ending conflict in that area”.

Mrs Clinton has said she has serious concerns about the board’s powers, but believes the legislation should move forward, or “too many Puerto Ricans will continue to suffer”.

The foundation collected donations from foreign governments such as Saudi Arabia while she was Secretary of State under Obama.

“Do I have a problem with that?” Sanders said. “Yeah, I do”.
