On Veterans Day, remembering World War II in 4 charts

It is an unfortunate reality of our civilization that sometimes wars must be fought, as hard as we try to avoid them. A temporary halt of fighting was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in World War I. It was then known as “the Great War”.

From that point forward, November 11 was set aside to celebrate Armistice Day, which became a legal holiday in 1938.

“It’s very important that when you come back you feel, unlike what we felt when we came back from Vietnam, a positive attitude by everybody”, Richard Baron, a Vietnam veteran said.

The theme of this year’s ceremony was honoring all who served in times of war and in times of peace, and purple heart recipients.

Veterans we talked to say they want to get the word out about what it means to serve, often times in unsafe situations, regardless of whether they are from the guard, the reserve, or active duty.
