Then came a YouTube video featuring a man named James Wright eating the pie and singing like Patti.

With Thanksgiving just days away, our nation is facing a crisis – a shortage of Patti’s pies for the desserts table.

Kerry Robinson, vice president for bakery and deli at Walmart, said Monday that they’re doing everything they can to meet demand, but getting two million sweet potatoes isn’t an easy task.

A Walmart spokesman told 11Alive’s Julie Wolfe the Patti LaBelle pies flew off the shelves at a rate of one per second during the 72 hour period from Thursday through Saturday.

With the pies coming up rare, consumers are using eBay to get their fix and/or feed their curiosity. He talked about LaBell’s greatness, sang snippets of her songs, urged shoppers to support black-owned businesses, and never let dead air take over any of the action.

LaBelle showed her appreciation to Wright by putting in a personal call to him, thanking him for telling the world about her pies.

According to a MI Wal-Mart associate interviewed by Yahoo Food, the store sold 120 cases pie Sunday alone after “not selling” before the video. He told FOX 32 News Grammy-Award winning singer called him Friday morning to say “thank you” for his sweet review!

His mother responded by saying, “I’m gonna hang up on you”.
