The workers broke open the window panes of the office and pelted stone.
The MQM, run by Hussain from London – and accused of using extortion and murder to cement its grip on power – has always been blamed for ethnic violence in Karachi.
The workers also set up bonfires on the road and fired aerial shots as they marched towards the Governor House.
Two policemen were reported injured as a result of clashes with the demonstrators.
Gunshots were also heard in the area, where markets and shops were closed.
Dunya News reporter Fahad Qamar also got injured while reporting the unfoldings and fulfilling his professional responsibilities. Federal Minister of Information Pervaiz Rashid also condemned the attack.
Several journalists of various media organisation present there were attacked by the activists of the Mutthaida-E-Qaumi Movement (MQM) – the single largest party in Karachi. He directed that action needs to be taken against the extremist elements behind spreading the unrest.
Since August 17, MQM workers were on a hunger strike outside the Karachi Press Club against arrests and alleged harassment of party workers by law enforcement agencies in Karachi.
Local media said the protesters had rushed to the office of ARY shortly after the MQM leader Altaf Hussain, who lives in exile in London, had criticised Pakistan’s media in a telephone address for failing to report on his workers’ hunger strikes.
