As many as 58 homes were evacuated after a house on Hickory Drive near Willowbank Trail was completely levelled by an explosion leaving debris scattered half a block away from the epicentre and damaging at least two dozen homes.
Mississauga Fire Chief Tim Beckett confirmed reporters on Wednesday that “The dogs go in to look for the scent of live victims”.
Police say the cause of the explosion is not known.
A number of residents are being allowed to return to their homes tonight after a deadly home explosion shook a Mississauga neighbourhood Tuesday.
A canine unit on site Tuesday evening and early Wednesday morning found no evidence of anyone trapped in the rubble, Beckett said.
Mississauga Mayor Bonnie Crombie said 50 to 100 residents have been evacuated from the area.
“Dear God, as of next week everything will fall apart for us”, said one note, an image of which was shared on Reddit before being taken down.
The Ontario Fire Marshall’s Office is leading the investigation and one area they will be examine is the role gas may have played.
Crombie said she would be going to the centre after the conference to ask residents what they need.
“We’re in the very initial stages of the investigation”, Evans said.
Colley said police were still working on associating the notes to someone at the residence, but added it is proving hard.
“So … we were comfortable that there was nobody in those buildings and in fact we now have people accountable on both sides of the blast zone”. And shortly before 6 p.m., police said they had found one party without vital signs. CP24 is quoting sources as saying “several homes” exploded although it seems from pictures to be one home causing damage to others.

The IBC is also available to meet with residents at the Burmanthorpe Community Centre, which will operate as an emergency evacuation and information centre for the next three days. He said his phone immediately went dead.
