In a statement to the media, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines confirmed reports that an Agusta 109E helicopter with registry number RP-C2726 operated by Malate Tourist Devt Corp. crashed on the way to Manila.
The helicopter flew in from Pueto Gallera Saturday and remained overnight; it left for Manila this morning carrying 8 persons on board when it crash landed in Batangas.
The survivors were taken to Martin Marasigan Hospital – where the 62-year-old businessman King died.
The injured passengers were identified as fashion entrepreneur Tina Ocampo, her husband Ricco, Tatler Philippines editor Anton San Diego, Christopher Chilip, Patricia Chilip, and King’s wife Ling-ling.
Earlier, the CAAP reported the crash resulted in the death of one of the passengers and injuries to seven others.
Although Joel Laraya, chief senior inspector of Cuenca Police, said heavy rainfall could be the primary reason why the chopper fell.
The CAAP said the crash could have been due to poor visibility arising from bad weather caused by tropical storm Linfa (local codename Egay) which state weathermen warned has threatened provinces in Northern and Central Luzon. They were on their way back to Manila from Puerto Galera.

PRC chairman Richard Gordon said the six will be transferred to the St. Lukes Medical Center in Taguig City for further treatment.
