One dead in shopping trolley joyride
A Swedish man who is in a serious condition in a Sydney hospital after a joy-riding accident in a shopping trolley that killed his mate could be charged, police say. In the opposite direction, a vehicle was travelling and the trolley slammed into it. The road where the collision happened had posted a sign which only allows a maximum speed of 60km/hour.

One of the men was riding in the metal shopping trolley while the other was standing on the back of the trolley as they travelled down Coogee Bay Road in Randwick about 12.20am on Tuesday.
One of the men spent the previous two years living and studying in Australia and his friend had only been here for a week on a visit, according to Chief Inspector Stiles.
The trolley smashed into a moving vehicle at Judge Street and the pair were thrown onto the road.
Detective Superintendent Gavin Dengate, from the Eastern Beaches command, said it appeared the men were simply “mucking around” before the crash, and the driver of the auto was not at fault.
“It sounds like they might have had a bit of fun together, resulting in this awful incident”, the chief inspector added.
One of the men died at the scene, while the other was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital where he was being treated for serious injuries.
The 45-year-old driver of the auto, who was not injured, tested negative for drugs and alcohol.

Supt Dengate said police had begun making contact with distraught family and friends of the two Swedish men.
