On July 7, a USA military veteran shot and killed five police officers in Dallas in the deadliest day for United States law enforcement since the September 11, 2001, attacks.

A woman gunned down early Sunday morning in Austin, Texas, in a shooting that sent three others to the hospital has been identified as a Bay Area resident.

Manley said the alleged shooter, who was injured, was apprehended and taken to hospital. A fifth victim, a man, refused aid, it said.

Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo released a statement expressing his condolences to the family of the woman that resulted dead in the shooting.

Police had warned people to stay away from downtown. Three other women, all believed to be in their 30s, were taken to the University Medical Centre Brackenridge for treatment for what the Austin-Travis County EMS described as “serious but not life-threatening” injuries.

After further investigation, says Chief Manley, neither of the shootings were the work of an “active shooter”, as previously mentioned.

However, investigators later determined that they were “two unrelated incidents that occurred in close proximity both in location and time”, Manley said.

He said there was another confrontation in a nearby parking area and that a shot had been fired there. Police are now trying to identify suspects. The suspect fired into a crowd on 6th Street, police said, adding that it is unknown if the shooter had a connection with any of the victims.

However he said the two incidents appeared not to be linked.
