One Direction goes separate directions

It’ll be interesting to see how Directioners perceive Made In The A.M.

Songs on their 2011 debut, Up All Night, veered wildly from the pop perfection of “One Thing” to an unsettling banger in the form of “Stole My Heart”.

Now, right on time, comes the fifth – and perhaps final – installment: “Made in the A.M.”, which follows the group’s recent announcement that it will take a break next year.

The wait is finally over and from today fans can get their hands on One Direction’s new album, Made in the AM.

Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Louis Tomlinson and Zayn Malik – who left the band in March of this year – all became directors of their own United Kingdom business in 2010, 1D Media. The epitome is “I Want to Write You a Song,”whose slow hymn is only a faux attempt to add meaning to bland and childlike lyrics like “I want to build you a boat / One that’s as strong as you are free”.

Yet One Direction has always been best at its most lighthearted; the band’s offhand vibe is what sets it apart from its more deliberate boy-band predecessors. One of the most notable spats happened in May, after United Kingdom producer Naughty Boy leaked a solo track he made with Malik and Tomlinson accused him of “riding on the back of someone else’s career”.

The album is due to release next week and is titled “Made in the A.M”. While I doubt Train will mind me comparing the bridge of “Long Way Down” to their inescapable ode to the best soy latte that you ever had, Noel Gallagher might have a few words to say about the other comparison suggested here. The guys have also bandied about the idea of “a little holiday – where that’s to, we don’t know yet. That’s going to be pretty apparent after a couple of months, so of course we’ll meet up”. “It is definitely really sad for us”.

Songs such as ‘Love You Goodbye’ pull at the heartstrings and Harry’s husky opening vocals on ‘If I Could Fly’ got us swooning at the first syllable, whilst anthemic tracks like ‘End of the Day’ and ‘Hey Angel’ will be sure to have every fan chanting and standing in their seats.
