The band – comprised of Niall Horan, Harry Styles, Liam Payne and Louis Tomlinson – are set to take a year out to focus on their own solo projects and will not tour with their fifth album.

The “extended hiatus” is expected to begin in March 2016, and the members will be working on their own solo projects, said E!.

They added that the hiatus is 100 per cent “not a split” and they will get back together in the future to release further material.

In news nearly as devastating as the current price of a Freddo, shiny-haired darlings One Direction are said to be splitting up. The fans have been left heartbroken as they claim they can never get over the news of the band disbanding.

According to a report in The Sun, the group are going their separate ways in March after the release of their fifth studio album.

Just last month, Simon Cowell said he believes the band deserves a break after years of cranking out hits and constant touring.

The boys literally go out of this world as they transform into astronauts and are sent into orbit in the video.

So, here’s hoping they go the way of Ross + Rachel, and ultimately end up back together…in one direction.

“In fact, the band has been making incredible music and been incredibly happy without Zayn”. They should be able to pursue other endeavors and live their lives how they want to.
