Harry, Niall, Louis and Liam were given a send-off to remember by the show which catapulted them to stardom, with friend and mentor Simon Cowell leading the tributes. You guys have made us what we are today!

“I want to take a chance now to say, thank you, you’ve been an absolute pleasure to work with”. He even applauded One Direction for their accomplishments in the past five years and shared that he was proud of the band.

One Direction capped off five years in the music industry, prior the band’s planned hiatus, with an emotional performance during the “X Factor UK” grand finals held on Sunday at the Wembley Arena. “We can’t believe what had happened to us”. You are the greatest team mates we have ever known.

One Direction will be going on a two-year hiatus in March next year and the boys say it was an “unanimous” decision. Predictable rumors scoffing that Harry Styles is “definitely” going to pursue a solo career (Harry is arguably the best known and most headline-grabbing member of One Direction, especially in America) also surfaced and fanned fan fears that the One Direction break-up was going to be for good.

In the message, Liam said: “Hi everyone, this is just a massive, massive thank you to all our fans”.

However, though Simon made a point of referencing “the five of you” a couple of times, and pictures of Zayn with his band mates flashed up on a screen alongside other images from the last five years, Zayn wasn’t there in person to be a part of the proceedings…

‘This time a year ago I couldn’t have told you what I was doing, and that is what we are looking forward to.
