The 2015 American Music Awards are officially underway with a sexy dance number from host Jennifer Lopez, broadcasting on ABC from the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles. Macklemore and Ryan Lewis are singing their all-new hit while Gwen Stefani is putting a show with a performance of her hit single “Used to Love You”. Her nominations include song and collaboration of the year for “Bad Blood” with Kendrick Lamar, favorite female artist – pop/rock, favorite album – pop/rock for “1989” and favorite artist – adult contemporary.
Also competing for artist of the year are British singers Ed Sheeran and Sam Smith, Canadian R&B crooner The Weeknd, pop-rock band Maroon 5, rapper Nicki Minaj, country star Luke Bryan, and pop singers Ariana Grande and Meghan Trainor.
“I want to write a song for Paris”, said the 23-year-old entertainer, whose song “See You Again” was nominated twice at the AMAs. Aside from the expectedly marvelous performances by today’s biggest artists, the event’s producers have recently confirmed that they will be conducting a big tribute performance for all of the victims during the tragic Paris attacks.
The American Music Awards show on Sunday night was packed with a steady stream of steamy live performances, but the group who came away with the coveted Artist of the Year trophy was One Direction. He also won the award for Favorite Male Artist in the Soul/R&B.
