Collecting the main gong, Liam Payne said: “We can’t believe we get to win awards like this”.

Nicki Minaj won two awards in the rap/hip hop categories, The Weeknd won two soul/R&B awards, Florida Georgia Line won two country music awards and country artist Sam Hunt was named best new artist. “And please find your voice and find your goal before it’s too late”. Definitely an angry girl power moment!

While numerous headlines will no doubt focus on the diabetes-inducing stage makeout session between Charlie Puth and Meghan Trainor, the show’s saving grace was it’s packed schedule of musical performances. The singers made out onstage after singing their song, “Marvin Gaye“, which features the lyrics: “Let’s Marvin Gaye and get it on”.

This was the eighth time that Carrie Underwood has been nominated for Favorite Female Country Artist at the American Music Awards.

Ariana Grande won over Swift for Fave Female Artist, while the combination of Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber took home the trophy for Collaboration of the Year over “Bad Blood”.

The brunette beauty surrounded herself with some seriously gorgeous guys while she sang her huge hit, and we have to say the 23-year-old has really grown into a killer live performer!

During the star-studded event, singer and heartthrob Justin Bieber marked his official comeback, as his album “Purpose” was listed at the top of Billboard’s record charts. It beat out One Direction’s “Made in the A.M.”, which sold 459,000 equivalent albums. That was the cue for an impressive sequence in which Lopez, also the show’s host, moved with real fire to some of the year’s most indelible pop hits, including the Weeknd’s “Can’t Feel My Face” and Drake’s “Hotline Bling”. Jennifer Lopez wowed the audience with an opening number of dance to numerous year’s top songs, and multiple wardrobe changes.

Taylor Swift was named Favourite Artist (Adult Contemporary), and took home Song of the Year for “Blank Space“, as well as Favourite Album (Pop/Rock) for 1989.

“Make some noise for Prince, ladies and gentlemen”, the singer said.
