One Direction win big at American Music Awards

The “On the Floor” hitmaker was delighted to take to the stage at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles as she revealed the annual ceremony was one of her inspirations to pursue a career in performing.

Charlie Puth, who locked lips with Meghan Trainor for an extended kiss onstage, said he happened to be near the site of the Paris attacks a few weeks before they happened and felt his heart break at the news.

After embracing Meghan, Ariana stood at the microphone and said: “Eeeew, I’m crying, I owe a lot of this to my Nana who voted, she told me: “Ariana, I went on the computer and voted so I think you will win”.

But at the awards show, the pair was not spotted together – effectively squelching rumours they have gotten back together again. Luke Bryan and Karen Fairchild of Little Big Town teamed up for “Home Alone Tonight”.

Star Wars” veteran Harrison Ford introduced five-piece a cappella group Pentatonix, who put their vocals to John Williams’ iconic “Star Wars” score, along with a full orchestra on stage.

Our grande dame of music, Celine Dion, paid tribute to the people of Paris and the victims of the recent terrorist attacks by singing Edith Piaf’s “Hymne a L’Amour“. It’s a major event on the music calendar and attracted a guestlist of stars from the worlds of music, film, TV and fashion.

Justin Bieber closed the show with a series of songs from his new album including an acoustic rendition of “What Do You Mean”, followed by a high tempo performance of “Where Are U Now”, where Bieber showed off his dancing skills.
