One held for firing at Wasim Akram’s car

A key suspect allegedly involved in the attack on former Pakistan cricket captain Wasim Akram’s auto near National Stadium in Karachi was reportedly taken into custody by police investigators on Friday. Police is striving to bring his employer to book, who is still at large. The incident happened when he was on his way to National Stadium in Karachi and a gunman opened fire at his auto.

“He definitely looked like an official”, he said of the shooter.

Former Pakistan skipper and head of the political party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf Imran Khan tweeted that he was glad to hear Wasim was safe.

The sources say that Wasim Akram has also identified the attacker from the picture shown to him by the police.

Following a row with the driver of the auto, a 2002 Honda Civic, the private guard sitting with the driver fired at Akram’s vehicle. “The police have detained one suspect after raid on his home in Quaidabad’s Daud Chowrangi locality”, DIG Karachi-East Zone Munir Ahmed Shaikh was quoted as saying by Dawn News. He added that he will be handing over the vehicle’s registration number, that Akram had shared with the police while registering the police case, to seek the assistance of the excise department.

After retiring, Akram became a sports commentator and started coaching Pakistani bowlers. He is also now employed as the bowling coach of Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders.
