At least one person is being treated for injuries after deputies say a domestic violence-related incident resulted in a shooting at an elementary school in Statesville, reports CBS affiliate WBTV.

The incident took place around 2:30 p.m.at Central Elementary School on Wilkesboro Highway.

The older child then ran into the school looking for help. Shortly thereafter, the suspect and the couple’s youngest child also went into the school.

The man was taken to the hospital for treatment. His condition is unknown. She was in custody late Tuesday but her name hasn’t been released.

Although no students were injured, Sheriff Darren Campbell told WBTV that some students on the playground may have heard or seen the events unfold.

Authorities recovered the weapon from the scene in the parking lot.

The school was quickly placed on lockdown and it was lifted not long after. Officials said it appears the shooting happened inside the couple’s truck. Two children were in the vehicle at the time of the shooting, deputies said.
