One Streak Over, Rosberg Aims for Another

“We stood and spoke to each other today, and no problem”, the Briton told reporters after arriving in the Monaco paddock 10 days on from the opening lap incident that dumped both out of the race.

Midway through the session Hamilton and Rosberg again traded quickest laps, with the former again taking the honours, conjuring a time that would remain unbeaten. Of course, we are conscious we don’t want to have the same result as we did in the last one. It led to the 2009 world champion, who posted the 15th best time, also sustaining a puncture, and the session was red flagged.

Red Bull’s Australian driver Daniel Ricciardo set the race lap record of one minute 18.063 seconds around the Mediterranean principality’s twisty low-grip layout previous year but the cars are already faster this season.

“As a family, we have so many unanswered questions and feel that Jules’ accident and death could have been avoided if a series of mistakes had not been made”.

“It’s an incredible feeling making a vehicle dance through those streets, one of the purest thrills you can have in a racing auto”, said Hamilton.

“The engine has helped a little bit but obviously we have a good vehicle around here as well, I think it’s down to a little bit of both”, said Ricciardo of his time.

“I always enjoy myself here”, said a beaming Ricciardo. “I’m still getting used to the auto”.

The championship-leading German, who holds a 34-point advantage in the drivers title race, has won the last three Monaco races and has a chance to do something on Sunday only previously achieved by Ayrton Senna.

“Now, we go to Monaco to face a very different challenge”. We’re moving on with everything and the relationship is the same as before.

“Red Bull came out on top in Barcelona after a close fight with Ferrari, so it’s clear that we are under attack from more than one angle”. They were the fastest through the tight sector three in Barcelona – and that is usually a good indicator of form for the Monaco GP.

“We need to dig into it and see if we can find a big chunk of lap time”.

“This weekend sees the first appearance of the Ultra Soft tyre – which will be particularly interesting given that even the Super Soft has arguably been too hard for this circuit in recent years”.
