Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton says he’s monitoring developments in the deadly shooting at the West Texas high school and promises to provide support for law enforcement agencies investigating the case.
The shooter then turned the gun on herself and has died, Houston said. In the confusion, CNN reports, a U.S. marshal accidentally shot a Homeland Security agent.
The wounded student was able to run outside, seeking help, with injuries that are not considered life threatening.
CBS 7 is reporting that the Big Bend Medical Center in Alpine, Texas, has stated there are no victim deaths to report at this time. It’s unclear who the third victim is.
Dodson told CBS affiliate KOSA the shooting happened while both girls were in the band hall bathroom.
Alpine Police Chief Russell Scown said first responders didn’t initially realize the dead 14-year-old was the shooter.
The identities of the shooter and victims have not been released.
Most students didn’t know what was going on when the shooting took place. She added, “My teacher. yelled to everyone to get into the closet”.
“Around 10, 10:15 is when we started seeing the cops pull up on campus and the choppers flying around and everything else”, he said. ‘One of the officers told us to keep our hands up and run out of the building, so I only saw the blood quickly’.
“It was so scary and very intense”.
“I’ve lived in Alpine just about my whole life”.
Authorities say a university and public schools were put on lockdown in Alpine, Texas, following a shooting at a local high school.
“Y’all better leave me alone”, the male caller said, according to the sheriff.
The Alpine Avalanche, which also reported the death, said on its Facebook page that the high school was being evacuated.
The shooting happened less than three weeks after classes began on August 22.
