One teen dead, another hurt after carnival ride accident

A spokesperson for the El Paso Catholic Diocese – which was hosting the carnival – says the teen that was killed hit a metal barricade. According to ABC News, three teen girls were aboard the Sizzler when something went wrong.

She was taken to Del Sol Medical Center, where she later died.

Two other teenagers were in the ride when the incident happened.

A church carnival in El Paso, Texas, was the scene of a deadly accident Friday night. A third girl on the ride with them wasn’t ejected.

The aunt of the teen girl on the ride who was unscathed told NewsChannel9 that the girls complained that the seat belts wouldn’t buckle but that the ride operator reassured them that they’d be fine without it fastened. The 15-year-old was being treated for non-life-threatening injuries Saturday, he said. “That’ll be revealed in the investigation”, El Paso police spokesman Sgt. Enrique Carillo told the station.

The company in charge of the carnival rides is Playtime Amusements Inc. The three girls all got on the ride and were the only riders at the time of the horrific accident. User Isaac Sheaffer, who calls himself a “carny-in-training” points out that the Sizzler manufacturer Wisdom Rides sent out a bulletin in 2007 noting that seatbelts were to be installed in all Sizzler rides.
