OnePlus 2 launch event showcases premium hardware, customizations

Now that the cat’s out of the virtual bag, we can put all the OnePlus 2 rumors to rest and take a look at the official specs listing for OnePlus’s new flagship killer. As speculated, the device features a 5.5-inch (1920x1080p) Full HD display powered by a 1.8GHz Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3 or 4 GB of RAM (depending upon the storage option). The price of the 64GB smartphone variant is at Rs 24,999, while the 16GB is set to come out sometime later this year at the price of Rs 22,999.

The device will be available to purchase from August 11 in the US, Canada, India, EU, and China while other country to follow up in Q4 of 2015.

On the back we have a new laser assisted focus system similar to the LG G3, G4 and the G Flex 2 that allows for a quicker lock compared to the older camera unit. The company has announced that upcoming device is due for launch for invited customers in the United States, the European Union and India on August 11.

The phone also features a special “alert slider” on its left side, which can toggle between three different notification profiles. It was perhaps the most-awaited launch of the year because the phone has succeeded in creating hype and also because its predecessor, the OnePlus 1, was highly successful. The phone runs on OxygenOS, which is not completely an Android platform and comes with significant changes. The 16GB OnePlus 2 costs £239 SIM-free, and the 64GB model £289.

This morning several images of what we must assume is the final model OnePlus 2 have “leaked” via microbloggers. Below the display is hardware button that houses a fingerprint scanner, which the company says is faster than the iPhone’s TouchID and lets users save up to five fingerprints.

The phone comes with a 13 megapixel rear camera with sensor pixel size of 1.3 microns, 35% larger than standard smartphone cameras. Users will be able to customize it with StyleSwap covers, sold separately, in various colors including black apricot, Kevlar, bamboo, rosewood and the classic sandstone black. Initially, it will be available through invite system. So if you were searching for a phone with these features, then you would be disappointed with the OnePlus 2.
