Parliament is forced to consider all petitions that receive more than 100,000 signatures for a parliamentary debate.
Those voting to leave the European Union totaled 51.9 percent of the votes (17,410,742) as compared to those who wanted to stay at 48.1 percent and 16,141,241 votes.

“Frankly a second referendum would be a disgrace”, another added.
Another tweet said: “Regardless of what you think about the outcome, good or bad, democracy has spoken”.
However, it is unlikely that a second referendum would ever seriously be considered.
The petition is open to British citizens or United Kingdom residents only.
The Ukip leader said a small defeat for his leave camp would be “unfinished business”. Of course, the likelihood of another referendum actually happening any time soon is basically nil – a fact leave voters were quick to point out..

However, the Labour Mayor, who campaigned to remain in the European Union, urged people “not to panic” and claimed London will be a great city no matter the outcome.
