Only The First Half Of ‘Final Fantasy XV’ Is Open World

But it looks like the game is not exactly what we thought.

However, as noted in a Famitsu interview with Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata (translated by Siliconera), exploring the countryside might be part of the narrative discoveries of just the first half of the game. “The ones that we’ve announced are the ones were decided that we’ll certainly do”, Tabata answered.

Square Enix has today unveiled another batch of gorgeous and adorable screenshots for its chibi-inspired RPG, World of Final Fantasy.

“Yes. Should we decide on DLC that isn’t included in the Season Pass that is now selling, then that’s how it’ll be”. They also asked if there were any plans to add more optional costumes into the game as DLC. “That said, our priority is to polish up the main game for the time being”. There are six add-ons that will be covered by the pass, but future content will not be.

Following the move of classic franchises like Metal Gear Solid and The Legend of Zelda to more free, open-world design, Final Fantasy XV will make the jump this year, as well, but it appears that Square Enix has something a little different planned for its structure.

In that way, it’s a move that is the polar opposite of the poorly received Final Fantasy XIII, which saw players play more than halfway through the game before revealing an explorable, open world environment.

The first 3 chapters are 15% of the game. It sounds like there are 15 chapters in total so a better part of the game is going to be linear. Final Fantasy XV is out November 29 on PS4 and Xbox One.

Final Fantasy XV was originally scheduled to release next month, but was delayed to move content initially scheduled for a day-one pass onto the retail disc.
