Steve held up the card, adding: “Please don’t hold it against the ladies, please don’t”.
Harvey took on to Twitter to apologize for the humiliating error yet no apology can fix the pain he caused to these women whose memorable day turned into a nightmare.
Miss Colombia was the first runner-up, he said, holding up the card that contained the official results.
And just like that, Miss Philippines was crowned and Miss Colombia was left red-faced, “ready to kill”.
Moments after pageant host Steve Harvey crowned Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo Miss Universe, an awkward moment unfolded as Arevalo blew kisses and waved to the audience. “For us, you will continue being miss universe!”.
Saying she’s now the voice of Miss Universe she apologized for what happened on behalf of the organization. “I have to apologize”. She was still celebrating when Harvey returned to the stage to make an announcement.
Harvey then displayed the card to the cameras to show that he messed up the names.
“I don’t want to take away from this fantastic night and pageant”, he went on.
However, organizers later had to step in and advise Harvey that he screwed up, as Miss Columbia was actually the first runner-up.
On Sunday night, Miss Universe host Steve Harvey committed a major oopsie when he announced that Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, had won. “As well as the wonderful contestants – they were all unbelievable”.
Minutes after the competition, Harvey took to micro-blogging site Twitter to repeat his apologies. “They were all amazing” Harvey stressed.
