Opera Max update adds Youtube, Netflix video compression
Opera Max, Opera’s data-saving proxy for Android, has long allows you to save some of your previous mobile data by compressing text, video and images when you surf the web or use apps like Instagram on your phone. Opera Max is an app that compresses content and manages data usage to maximize how much browsing you can do with your carrier’s monthly data allotment. The app enabled data compression for devices on Wi-Fi connections back in May.

Previously lacking was support for Netflix and YouTube, both of which have arrived with this new update.
While Opera Max is starting with YouTube and Netflix, the company says it plans to add additional video services that rely on HTTPS for secure connections in the future.
According to the company’s official statement, Opera Max can “condense a 10MB video down to 3MB – and significantly reduce instances of video buffering – without any noticeable loss of quality”.
There are a few advantages to compressing videos this way. As well, there have been some tweaks to the UI, unspecified bug fixes, and some other minor improvements.
