OR has named former University of South Florida coach Willie Taggart as the university’s head football coach. The Ducks are bringing in one of the most successful Group of Five head coaches over the last two seasons, punctuated by Taggart’s 10-2 mark at USF this fall, which was the best in school history.
Before he arrived in Tampa, he spent three seasons at his alma mater, Western Kentucky, inheriting a winless program that he turned around with back-to-back winning seasons. He replaces Ron Caragher, who was sacked after going 19-30 in four seasons with the Spartans. Mullens also interviewed Harsin, who is 38-13 in four seasons as a head coach: 2013 at Arkansas State and the past three seasons at Boise State.
Taggart left Bradenton for Bowling Green, Ky., after his senior year to play at Western Kentucky under Jack Harbaugh.
USF has not responded to the reports. Eventually, he’ll become a head coach. His team is 17-4 over the last 21 games.
