Kwaza finished the race in 23.51, taking sixth in the second heat and 26th overall. Little dealt McLaughlin her only 400 hurdles loss when Little was first and McLaughlin, 14 at the time, was second at the 2014 U.S. Junior National Championships.

Incoming freshman Samiyah Samuels competed on the opening day of the trials in the women’s long jump. The leap for Samuels would have given her the second best mark in The American Athletic Conference this season.

Alex Anderson finished in 21st place in 23.29 to take the final at-large qualifying spot.

OR wide receiver Devon Allen kept his Olympic dream alive Friday at the U.S. Olympic Trials, advancing to Saturday’s semifinals by winning his first-round heat in the 110-meter hurdles event with a time of 13.44 seconds.

Williams was the only Cougar in action on Friday, competing in heat one of the first round of the 110 hurdles. Up to three athletes with the Olympic standard time of 13.47 in the 110-meter hurdles can qualify for next month’s Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Williams will be joined by Houston Track and Field alumnus Chris Carter, who qualified for the finals of the men’s triple jump on Thursday.

Fourteen competitors remain in the field, as the high jump final will be contested on Sunday, July 10, at 5 p.m. CDT. “I’m happy just making the team, but for me I really wanted to make the team and be on top”.
