Oregon Ducks To Wear Lewis And Clark Uniforms

Now the Ducks will pay homage to the two 1800s-era explorers with an “Oregon Pioneer” alternate uniform from Nike that Oregon will wear against Washington State on October 10.

Oregon’s latest football uniform is a tribute to the state’s history.

The Oregon Trail takes center stage on the uniform, with each jersey top featuring a sublimated, tonal pattern of the path that Lewis and Clark traversed in the early 1800s.

For the record, neither Lewis nor Clark is carrying a gun in the silhouette. The jersey is gray to reflect the look of a vintage map. “Salute the State” is embroidered on the inner back neckline of the top.

“The handshake signifies both what Nike was built upon (with the agreement between Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight) and what Thomas Jefferson wanted to advance as the Corps of Discovery traveled west”, says Paul Sullivan, Nike NCAA football art director and lead University of Oregon designer.

– The back of the helmet includes the 33-star flag of the United States at the time Oregon was accepted to the union.

These special edition jerseys, along with hoodies, hats and t-shirts will be available for purchase at Nike.com and at the Oregon Ducks retail shop.
