On Friday just before 9:30 p.m., Ferry was walking down Broadway, and was known by the officers to have a warrant for his arrest.

The officer was shot when serving a warrant to a male suspect, who was also wounded during the incident, the spokesman said. Court records show Ferry, 55, had a lengthy criminal record that included 2015 convictions for unlawful possession of explosives and resisting arrest.
The suspect went down on the ground. She says the suspect pulled a gun and fired at one officer.
A second officer fired back at the suspect, who was taken to a hospital in nearby Astoria and was in unknown condition early Saturday morning.
“It appears the the shooting of Mr. Ferry was justified”, said Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis.
Clatsop County Sheriff Tom Bergin said Gooding was familiar with Ferry, and Ferry had a “vast record” and had been in-and-out of jail. The Seaside Police Department hired him in April, 2003.
“He demonstrated the best in what we do as law-enforcement officers”, Ham said. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Portland State University.
