Oregon school gunman killed himself after police shot him, officials say
Umpqua Community College reopened for grief counseling on Monday, although classes will not resume until October 12. Nine others were wounded.

The wounded gunman went back inside to a classroom where he shot himself to death at the front of the room, Wesenberg said. That post was from six years ago.
Like Rodger, he left behind a note that complained about not having a girlfriend.
Both women were gun enthusiasts, not uncommon in many parts of America where gun ownership is prevalent and encouraged.
The officers fired three shots at gunman Christopher Harper-Mercer, striking him once in the side.
The attack ended when the 26-year-old gunman killed himself after being wounded by plainclothes police officers.
Not only do boys of divorced parents usually suffer the loss of a male role model in the home, a few also receive insufficient attention and discipline from a tired single mother tasked with playing two roles.
Roseburg Police Chief Jim Burge said the officers “do not want to heralded as heroes – they feel they are only first responders who got there first and did a job they were trained and entrusted to do”. He said gun owners whose children have mental issues should seek advice from professionals.
“I, like many other people in this community, consider them to be heroes”. He then retreated to the classroom where he had gunned down eight students and a professor and killed himself.
Police have since revealed that Mercer had an AR-style assault rifle, along with three handguns. However, the postings included an email address that is linked to Ms Harper.
“I keep two full mags in my Glock case. No one will be “dropping” by my house uninvited without (acknowledgment)”, the user Tweety Bird wrote.
She posted several times that her son had Asperger’s syndrome, a mild form of autism.
Harper-Mercer’s social media profiles suggested he was fascinated by the Irish Republican Army and frustrated by traditional organized religion. The father, who lives in California, insisted that there was no “disharmony or bitterness or anything like that” and that, although he hadn’t seen his son since he moved to Oregon in 2013, “when he was down here, we saw each other, went for dinner, you know, did things that sons and dads do, you know, just talk”.
Officials recovered six weapons at the school, at least five magazines of ammunition and a flak vest, worn by Harper-Mercer. She attempted to eliminate disruptions to Adam Lanza’s life “entirely through hypervigilance and management of his symptoms”.
She wrote that she read aloud to her unborn son from Donald Trump’s The Art of The Deal.
But Nancy Lanza isolated her son from the world. His mother, it notes, “seemed unaware of any potential detrimental impact of providing unfettered access to firearms”.

Friends and neighbors have described Mr. Harper-Mercer as reclusive and odd, and also having shown a keen interest in guns.
