Oregon students improve ACT college test scores
Nebraska’s average composite score for 2016 graduates was 21.4, compared to last year’s 21.5. The ACT organization says that’s because like in MS, more states nationwide are paying for all students to take the test.

Among black students, performance has been relatively flat over the last five years, while the number of students tested has gone up.
“They’re not acceptable. I know we can do better”, state superintendent Steve Canavero said about the scores, which fell below those of other bottom-performing states including MS and SC. Comeaux lags one tenth of a point behind the state in its composite score.
North Forsyth High scored a 22.9 on the ACT, which was 45th in the state. It marked a drop of 1.7 points from the previous school year, when only 73-percent of graduating seniors took the ACT.
Tennessee is one of 18 states that require students to take the ACT.
Mississippi’s ACT scores fell sharply in the first year that all public school seniors in the Magnolia State took the test.
More than 70 percent of MA students showed proficiency in both reading and math.
Students at Knox County Schools averaged a 20.5 in 2016. 2016-2017 marks the first year that the district has a uniform ACT prep plan for its students. More than 60 percent of students in the three top-scoring states – Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Hampshire – met the science benchmarks.
The ACT tests students for college and career readiness through four benchmarks of English, reading, mathematics, and science.
In Wisconsin, 60% of our students met the exam benchmark in english. “They know it’s a college readiness exam”, Thiesfeldt said.
In total, 64,145 students – an increase of 17,283 students or 37 percent over the class of 2015-took the exam, which historically is an important access point to postsecondary opportunities.
There is a stark divide, too, among students who come from wealthier homes and those who grew up less well off.
“Ooltewah’s ACT scores have outpaced the state and the nation in terms of growth”, Interim Superintendent Dr. Kirk Kelly announced to students Wednesday.
Especially notable were the significant increases in the number of students from groups that are traditionally underserved. Twenty-four percent of KCS students had college-ready test scores.
The achievement gap between higher and lower income students may be growing.
We have likely added many more underrepresented students who may not have been preparing to go to college.
Overall, the number of students taking the ACT in Utah increased by 26 percent since 2012.
Meanwhile, just nine percent of students who do not indicate a preferred major reached proficiency in all four subject areas. The state will reimburse local districts for their ACT costs.
Nebraska test-takers have, so far, proved better prepared for college than the national average.

Nebraska also has a greater percentage of students who meet college benchmarks in all subjects than the national percentage.
