Orioles draft high school left-hander in first round
Florida A&M wasn’t left out of the Draft, as Aubrey McCarty, a two way player for the Rattlers this season, was picked up by the Rockies in the 26th round.

He was ranked as the No. 8 overall pitching prospect and the No. 13 overall draft prospect in Baseball America’s Top 200 Prospects and the No. 14 overall draft prospect by MLB.com.
The Orioles went straight to work on improving one of the worst pitching staffs in Major League Baseball by drafting high school left-handed pitcher D.L. Hall with the No. 21 overall pick on Monday night.
High school players are trendy. He’s a smaller left-hander who draws comparisons to Scott Kazmir with his low-90s fastball and overpowering curve. As with day two, the Indians will have the 27th pick in each round.
The biggest question mark is this: Hall, who is committed to FSU, has already stated that it will be a tough decision on whether to sign or to play college ball.
“I talked to (the Cleveland Indians) and I’d been projected (as high as) the second round, but they took a shortstop (Tyler Freeman from Etiwanda High School in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.)”, Serrates said.
As a senior, the 6-foot-2, 180-pound lefty compiled an ERA of 1.36 over 51 1-3 innings on the mound for the Wildcats. The last position player the Tigers drafted in the second round was catcher James McCann, the 76th overall pick in the 2011 draft.
Warren posted a 1-0 record with a 4.56 earned-run average and recorded 28 strikeouts in 23.2 innings pitched for the Ducks.
Entering the 2017 campaign, Russell was highlighted as a potential breakout candidate and blew away almost all expectations.
Former Miles City Outlaw and Rosebud native Brac Warren was drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 17th round of the MLB Draft on Wednesday.

It’s always been unusual to me how muted the interest is in the MLB draft among baseball fans.
