Orioles Lose to a “Betts-er” Team

CUBS 4, BREWERS 0, GAME 1: Trevor Cahill came off the disabled list to pitch five two-hit innings for host Chicago in his first start in almost 16 months.

– Mookie Betts homered twice Tuesday, including a tiebreaking two-run shot in the top of the eighth inning that gave the Boston Red Sox a 5-3 victory over the Baltimore Orioles.

This game was called for rain after six innings, and it was probably for the best. That pitch was in nearly the same spot as the one to Trumbo – down the middle. “We’ve thrown the ball well as a group over I don’t know how long, but we’ve thrown baseball a lot better”. Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak said Holliday could be sidelined through September.

“They hit everything”, Bundy said with a laugh. Athletics closer Marc Rzepczynski walked Adrian Beltre to load the bases and Odor was hit in the shoulder on the next pitch.

The Red Sox nabbed their 67th victory on Wednesday night as Dustin Pedroia celebrated his 33rd birthday.

David Price pitched good enough to get his second win in as many starts.

The red-hot Boston Red Sox are headed to their fourth city in five days when they visit the Detroit Tigers in the opener of a four-game series on Thursday afternoon. I don’t think so.

David Ortiz hit a one run double while Bradley Jr. followed up with a two run double off of Wilson. Baltimore then answered in the bottom of the frame when Davis deposited his 25th home run of the season onto Eutaw Street.

Red Sox: 3B Aaron Hill was scratched shortly before game time with right forearm tightness. Tulowitzki also went deep to help the Blue Jays pull off their biggest comeback of the season and move back atop the AL East, just ahead of Baltimore and Boston. “It would be nice to say, ‘Yeah absolutely.’ But there is nothing that’s guaranteed in this game, so I’m going to continue to grind it out and do whatever I can”, Davis said.

Boston’s Jackie Bradley Jr., right, celebrates his two-run home run with Mookie Betts during the third inning.

The series will conclude tonight with Boston, as it was a short two-game affair. Dylan Bundy will be on the mound for the Orioles, and he’ll be opposed by Boston’s David Price.

As far as potential season-defining road trips go, this one has been pretty good for the Red Sox so far. After throwing his last pitch to Ortiz, however, Bundy’s cleats caught in the dirt and he fell to the ground, twisting his ankle. After a brief exam, he stayed in and walked Betts. Bradley gave the Red Sox a 3-1 lead in the third with his two-run, two-out homer off Bundy.

REDS 6, MARLINS 3: Tucker Barnhart’s first career grand slam capped a five-run first inning for host Cincinnati. “I feel like we made the right decision before it got worse”. So, it’s fine. Obviously we will see how it is tomorrow.

LeMahieu singled in the first inning, hit a two-run home run in the third and tripled and scored the go-ahead run in the fifth off Yusmeiro Petit (3-3). Leon completely tore the cover off the ball, pulling the ball for his sixth home run of the season. He allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings with no walks and six strikeouts. Bradley also homered in back-to-back games on Sunday and Monday and now has 18 of his 20 homers against right-handed pitchers.
