Orioles outlast Dodgers 6-4 in 14 innings

“Even when we were down, we felt like we were still in this game”. Back in the day, it was “the businessman’s special”, for the Baltimore Orioles it was a war of attrition.

His struggles at Dodger Stadium culminated in a 4-1 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night that cost Los Angeles its five-game overall winning streak and ended its run of 10 consecutive home victories. Roberts says he’s doing light jogging and the next step will be taking live batting practice. “It was a tough one to lose”. The right-hander from Anaheim had his career-high nine-game winning streak snapped last week.

“I just have a lot more confidence in that pitch”, Norris said. But that has melted away in splitting the first two games of the interleague series with the Orioles. Seager was walked intentionally, and Turner popped to short. Then the birthday boy, Manny Machado grounded into a double play.

Also entering the contest will be Mark Trumbo of the Baltimore Orioles, according to a tweet from Rich Dubroff of Comcast SportsNet.

Trumbo hit his 26th homer to start the sixth off Casey Fien.

“He’s a good hitter”. “I left a cutter up and he hit it out”.

On the year, Seager has hammered 17 home runs, which is second amongst National League shortstops to Trevor Story of the Colorado Rockies. “I should have been a little more careful”.

He gave up five runs in 31/3 innings, but the Dodgers’ bullpen followed with 52/3 scoreless innings, five relievers allowing just two hits.

“I had a great run with those guys a couple years ago and have a couple friendships over there”. This is Avilan’s second stint with Los Angeles this season, and he had a 27.00 ERA in four appearances entering Tuesday’s game.

Dylan Bundy had a fascinating 2 1/3 innings for the Orioles.

The seven strikeouts by Bundy were the most by a relief pitcher against the Dodgers since Rick Reed for the Mets on April 9, 1997. Machado is actually the starting third baseman.

“Luck”, joked Seager when asked the key to his hitting-streak. “I didn’t expect to do it, it doesn’t happen very often for a reason. I’ve been lucky to string this many together”.

Price needed 46 pitches to get through just the first two innings; 45 after Choo drove the first one of the game out to center. Schoop doubled to center, and both runners scored. “Unfortunately, we couldn’t get it done”.

LA loaded the bases in the bottom half of the 14th, but Baltimore manager Buck Showalter made a move that was a stroke of genius.

With one out, Adrian Gonzalez doubled and Thompson walked. Obvioulsy the homer, the breaking ball is the difference in the game.

“It was just good to see us respond”, Roberts said. Rickard then delivered a two-run single in the fourth, briefly putting the Orioles up 5-2.

J.J. Hardy and Joey Rickard drove in two runs apiece for the AL East-leading Orioles, who have lost five straight after a four-game sweep in Seattle.

After Yasiel Puig struck out, Utley doubled, his fourth hit of the game.

At 22 years, 69 days, Seager is the youngest position player to be named an All-Star in Dodgers history.

The combined strikeouts bettered the old mark of 32 set by the Braves and Dodgers on August 3, 1996.

“If you feel a breeze, it’s not coming from the ocean, it’s coming from Dodger Stadium”, joked Vin Scully.

Trumbo’s 25th home run put the Orioles ahead 3-2 in the third.

Justin Turner: Two-run home run. Turned was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in 2006, but traded to the Orioles in 2008.

Despite their 7-3 record in their last 10 games, the Dodgers have failed to make a sizeable dent in the San Francisco Giants’ comfortable lead in the National League West. They trail the Giants by five games and it appears that their best chance to return to the postseason will come via a wild-card berth. Tommy Davis’ 20-game streak in 1960 holds the team record. He hasn’t pitched since the 2014 playoffs, undergoing surgery and numerous setbacks.
